MKV to Galaxy Tab-Convert HD MKV to Galaxy Tab Video Format
"Is there a way to stream HD MKV files with AllShare to the Samsung Galaxy Tab? I've got a lot of them but I can't play them. Any other file is doing just fine." Have you ever asked the same question? Actually, according to some user's feedback, Galaxy Tab is unable to play .mkv media files via ALLShare.
A quick test streaming from a desktop PC to the Tab reveals that it can play:
.avi = plays ok
.wmv = plays ok
.mp4 = plays ok
.mkv = Unsupported file format
.mpg = Unsupported file format (amazingly)
.m2ts = Unsupported file format
MKV is just a container format which can contain various codecs, only a small subset of which (e.g. H.264, Xvid) the Samsung Galaxy Tab can play. So you'd better convert HD MKV to Galaxy Tab compatible formats no matter you want to watch them on your Tab natively or through AllShare. How to convert HD MKV to Galaxy Tab - make MKV playable with AllShare?
Step 1: Free download, install and run Pavtube MKV to Galaxy Tab Converter.
Once run the program, click "Add Video" button to import your source MKV files. You are allowed to add multiple MKV files to convert at a time. And if you wanna combine the loaded files into a single file, you can tick off the checkbox "Merge into one file".
If your source MKV contains multiple subtitles streams and audio tracks, you can click on the pull down menu after "Subtitles" and "Audio" respectively to select a certain track to be kept in the final output file. In that way, your MKV for AllShare will be played with your specified audio and subtitles track.
Step 2: Select "Samsung Galaxy Tab (*.mp4)" as output format for your Tab.
The MKV to Galaxy Tab Converter comes with optimized format preset for Galaxy Tab, so you just need select it as target format: firstly click on the dropdown list of "Format", and then choose "Samsung Galaxy Tab (*.mp4)" under "Samsung" option as export format.
