Canon EOS 6D has been released for days. Have you got one? Like 5D Mark 3, the 6D is also a full-frame DSLR. And it also full manual control over exposure and audio levels while recording in full HD 1080p at 30/25/24 fps or 720p at 60/50/30/25 fps. If you have been one EOS 6D user, you may know its HD recordings don't work well with the advanced movie editor iMovie, including iMoive 8/9/11. If you want to smoothly put the H.264 files to iMovie for further editig, you have to reformat H.264 MOV to the iMovie's native format AIC.

Why transcode?

Firstly we’ll get the “Why” out of the way. With your original H.264 files imported into a timeline in iMovie (or other NLE), you’ll already have noticed they don’t play smoothly, let alone sometimes iMovie cannot ingest the H.264 video files. Often frames are held while the audio plays ahead, chunks of frames are skipped and syncing any movement or action is generally a nightmare. Why does it do this? Well the H.264 codec is intended for playing back video for the end user. This means that like most video codecs it uses some fancy tricks to minimize file size – one of these tricks is that it doesn’t actually store the information for each frame. For editing, however, this is a nightmare. So we need to encode Canon EOS 6D H.264 files to iMovie compatible codec AIC.

How to transcode?

Image

Firstly, download and install the Mac H.264 MOV to AIC Converter, then run it.

Then, click on “Add Files”, and browse your files the definite folder; select all the .MOV files you wanna convert.

Next, you will need to choose a target format. Hit the Format bar to select iMovie and Final Cut Express > Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) (*.mov). In the Profile Settings window, you can adjust the video and audio parameters if needed. Recommended video, audio settings are presented as below.

When that’s done, click Convert button to start converting Canon EOS 6D MOV to AIC for iMovie on Mac OS X.

When the conversion task is done, you can get the resulted video via clicking Open icon. You can effortlessly import Canon EOS 6D H.264 MOV clips to iMovie for further editing.
