Final Cut Pro X is designed to deal with editing job from a wide range recorded videos from camcorder, handy camera, Apple devices and more. The FCP X was once claimed the most revolutionary Pro video editing software in the world. However, in fact, it doesn’t mean everything to users. For HD camcorder owners, they are still complaining with the FCP X saying no to their .mts files.
Tip 1: In the supported list, you can notice these models included:
Canon HF100, Canon LEGRIA HF G10 E, Canon VIXIA HF G10, Canon VIXIA HF M31, Canon VIXIA HF S200, Canon VIXIA HF11, Canon VIXIA HG10, JVC GZ-HM300S, Panasonic AG-AF100P, Panasonic HC-X900, Panasonic HDC-TM700, Sony HDR-SR10,etc. Get more at http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/cameras/en/index.html.
If your camcorder isn’t in the list, how to handle the problem? FCP X should work with AVCHD clips but the .mts files still can’t be successfully loaded into FCP X. In the case, transcode MTS to Final Cut Pro X acceptable files like Apple ProRes 422.
Tip 2: Apple ProRes is a lossy video compression format developed by Apple Inc. for use in post production that supports up to 4k, it is the successor of the Apple Intermediate Codec and was introduced in 2007 with Final Cut Studio 2.
On 28 August 2008, Apple introduced a free ProRes QuickTime Decoder for both Mac and Windows that allows playback of ProRes files through QuickTime.
Installing Final Cut Pro will install the ProRes codecs for encoding your own files on OS X.
Apple released ProRes bundled with other pro codecs as a free download for OS X with QuickTime 7.6 and newer. –from Wikipeida
