“That’d be way ahead of Nathan Gerbe Jersey ourselves.”The efforts of an unnamed group to bring a team to Saskatoon created buzz Thursday when TSN's Bob McKenzie reported on the network's website that "interested parties" have reached out to the league with the financial wherewithal "to ante up the required purchase fee."Mayor Don Atchison says an ownership group that approached the NHL about a franchise for Saskatoon is legitimate, but it will be up to the league's board of governors if the proposal goes further."They're exceedingly serious, make no bones about that," Atchison said. "But it doesn't matter how serious the ownership group is. We have seen that once before when Mr. (Bill) Hunter bought the Ryan Miller Jersey team and was ready to move it here."It will be up to the NHL what occurs in the end."Atchison said he can't divulge any information about the ownership group because it "wouldn't be fair to them," but said they have come to the table with a serious plan.A source confirmed the report to The StarPhoenix on Thursday, saying that a number of groups have approached Credit Union Centre (CUC) management during the last three years about the possibility of an NHL franchise for the city.In an interview, McKenzie said the group has made overtures to the NHL to relocate a franchise in Saskatoon. The total cost to buy and relocate an NHL team is $150 million to $200 million, McKenzie said. The amount is similar to the $170 million it reportedly Drew Stafford Jersey took True North Sports and Entertainment to get the Winnipeg Jets from Atlanta last year, $60 million of which went to the NHL."They know the price of poker," McKenzie said of the ownership group. "They know what it costs to buy a franchise, whether it's the (Phoenix) Coyotes or some other franchise."According to the TSN report, the interested parties "are pitching that an NHL franchise (in Saskatoon) would be supported by the entire province and it would be a viable operation."If a team lands in the city, the group has support from government to renovate and expand the 15,200-seat CUC to make it NHLready. Atchison and CUC executive director Will Lofdahl said Thursday the Thomas Vanek Jersey city and CUC have not had discussions about expanding the seating capacity with any group.
