As the Best Compact Camera in the 2010 TIPA Awards, Sony compact camera CyberShot DSC-HX5V has more different features available compared to average compact cameras to attract enthusiasts.
First of all, it is certainly a little thicker than the very compact TX7, the HX5V also more than doubles its zoom range. The HX5V, thanks to its use of their BIONZ processor and Exmor R Sensor, is capable of 1920 x 1080i video recording in the AVCHD (Advanced Video Coding High Definition) format. And it has five movie modes. For the highest quality, it offers AVCHD recording at 1920 x 1080 and 60 fields per second. There is also a 1440 x 1080 AVCHD mode which may sound like a 4:3 aspect ratio, but is actually a subsampled 16:9 mode. AVCHD captures more detail and records smoother movement while minimizing file size. But you can also record HD video in MP4 mode at 1440 x 1080, 1280 x 720 or 640 x 480, all at 30 fps.
Talking about the disadvantages of the camera, well, images aren't always sharp. And the supplied Picture Motion Browser is only Windows based. The lack of aperture-priority or shutter-priority modes also leaves HX5V something to be desired.
In sum, the Sony Cyber-shot HX5V is an excellent point and shoot camera. It has plenty of features for the enthusiast user, while being able to maintain a simple interface for those who need a little time to adjust to all that the camera can do.
