MTS is a High-definition MPEG Transport Stream video format, commonly called "AVCHD"; created by Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Canon and other HD camcorders. And the MTS format bases on the MPEG-2 transport stream and supports 720p and 1080i HD video formats.
If you fail to import AVCHD MTS/M2TS videos to Final Cut Express or Adobe Premiere Pro, it’s not surprising since only Final Cut Express 4 and the latter version as well as Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 supports ACVHD format (but not in the trial version).
In the end, you may need to find a way to convert you AVCHD mts/m2ts file format to compatible one for your Final Cut Express or Adobe Premiere Pro if both versions of the two are not workable with mts/m2ts files.
By Google search, you may find various Mac MTS converter in the market now, but sometimes too much options just make people confused about which one to choose. Here I’d like to recommend an excellent Mac AVCHD MTS/M2TS converter called Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac which is designed to convert MTS/M2TS to any other popular video or audio format at high fast conversion speed and excellent output quality. No matter you are an expert or novice, you could easily use it for its intuitive interface.
The following is a simple instruction of how to use this Mac MTS/M2TS Converter:
Step 1: Add MTS/M2TS files to the program
Import AVCHD recordings to the program by clicking "Add" in the menu bar. Batch conversion is also supported which allows to edit/convert various video files at one time.
Step 2: Choose output format and specify output folder
Choose output format for your specific usage. For example in this case, we can choose QuickTime mov format for further editing in Final Cut Express or Adobe Premiere Pro. If you check "Merge into one file", you can join all imported mts/m2ts files to one output video. Specify your destination folder for exported files in "Export to" drop-down list. You can browse for a destination path or directly enter file path in the bar.
Step 3: Convert
Click "Convert" button to start conversion immediately. Few minutes later, you will get output video in your destination folder.
After converting AVCHD to Final Cut Express or Adobe Premiere workable formats you can easily import them to your Final Cut Express or Adobe Premiere for editing. Hope you have a good editing experience.

Tips:
- Final Cut Express is non-linear video editing application created by Apple Inc. It is the consumer version of Final Cut Pro and is designed for advanced editing digital video as well as high-definition video. But only Final Cut Express 4 and the latter version supports real-time editing in the AVCHD format (currently for Intel processors only), imports iMovie '08 projects and includes 50 new filters.
- Adobe Premiere Pro is a real-time, timeline based video editing software application. Premiere Pro supports many video editing cards and plug-ins for accelerated processing, additional file format support and video/audio effects. Although the first two versions of Premiere Pro only supported Windows, Premiere Pro CS3 is available for both Windows and Mac OS (only Intel-based Macs are supported), making it one of the few cross-platform NLEs available. And now Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 supports ACVHD format but not in the trial version.
