I have some MXF footage recorded by my Panasonic P2 camera that I plan to edit in Avid Media Composer. The problem came when I imported the files into Avid as obviously Avid can not access the media properly. I probably need to find a video converter, I guess.
Somehow, I'm overwhelmed by the multiple choices out of Google search results that are capable of converting MXF files to WMV format as I needed. It's really hard to choose as they are more or less identical in appearance and more than that, some of these converting tools have the exact same functions. Well, how am I supposed to choose the best for my purpose. I did read some recommendation in Avid forum about one video converter by a company named Aunsoft. So I began my journey of testing MXF converting tools with the first option of Aunsoft Video Converter. Overall, I was quite happy with this software as its output WMV quality was satisfying and conversion speed is impressive. But I didn't stop but kept on trying more MXF converting tool such as iorgsoft, pavtube and Ilifesoft, etc. No big surprise, performance from latter software was on average. In the end, considered about its MXF joining function, option to shut down computer after conversion, as well as handling multiple files as one operation, I decided to choose Aunsoft Video Converter.
This is how the MXF Converter by Aunsoft looks like:
After you drag and drop files into the converter, I choose WMV output format for Avid Media Composer. Here a small tips for you: if you look for a HD output, you can follow "Format" > "HD Video" and choose the HD format you prefer and you will be impressed by its output quality! In my personal case, since my footage is quite large (over 12 GB) I choose WMV instead of WMV HD. Actually I'm quite satisfied with converted file. The WMV file plays beautifully in Avid.
Before you start conversion, let me remind you about the MXF joining ability. The function of joining/merging multiple MXF files together into one single file at one operation. It's indeed a very important feature if you have plenty of files waiting to be converted. I didn't expect that before I tried the product. If you want to join your imported files together, just make sure the "Merge into one file" checkbox is ticked. After that, you can start converting now. The ability to shut down after conversion spares you from being stuck in front of your machine. Just stack your files up, start the program, and walk away.
