Convert AVCHD (.mts, .m2ts) to DV-AVI for editing in Premiere 6.5
I need to convert HD (1920×1080 .mts) footage to standard definition DV-AVI for use in Premiere 6.5, which doesn't support HD. What software can I use to do this? I've experimented with a number of trial versions of conversion software. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, none do what I need them to. There are some options for AVI, but none that seem to be exactly the same as what I get when I encode with Premiere 6.5. Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you for your help!—From Francois in forum.
What is .MTS?
.MTS format which is a High-definition MPEG Transport Stream video format, commonly called "AVCHD" used by Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Canon and other HD camcorders; based on the MPEG-2 transport stream and supports 720p and 1080i HD video formats.
What is DV-AVI and why choose DV-AVI?
DV-AVI is DV video wrapped into AVI container. It is an uncompressed video with best quality, huge files. DV-AVI files as being a set of frames, with each frame having being a self-contained picture. Such files are large but much easier than MPEG-2 files to put together and edit. You can chop off the frames you don't want and use the good stuff. Movie Maker, Adobe Premiere loves them.
Convert MTS/M2TS to DV-AVI using Moyea MTS/M2TS Converter
Choose Moyea MTS/M2TS Converter is a best choice for converting AVCHD (*.mts, .m2ts) to DV-AVI 720*480 for editing in Adobe Premiere 6.5 and Windows Movie Maker. For it exactly offers the DV-AVI 720*480 as output format and easy, fast conversion without losing any quality.
Now I will share my experience of the conversion of .mts to DV-AVI with good quality.
Step1. Install and launch this MTS/M2TS Converter. Then an easy-to-use interface will pop up.
Step2. Click on the "Add" icon to import the .MTS files into the program, or just drag the MTS videos into it.
Step3. Select the output format DV-AVI and convert.
Now you can select DV-AVI video file as output format by selecting from the downlist behind "Format" box, then you can click "Settings" to check the video/audio profile, like codec, size, bitrate, etc. I can tell you the default aspect ratio of output DV-AVI is 720*480 (only one choice), so just keep it. And then confirm output path and click "Convert" to activate the encoding process of .MTS to DV-AVI.
After conversion, you can import DV-AVI into Adobe Premiere 6.5 for editing now.
