PORTLAND, Ore. Tom Brady Super Bowl Jersey . -- After two disappointing performances from Mac Carruth let the Kamloops Blazers back into their series with the Portland, the Winterhawks goaltender came through when his team needed him most. Carruth made 32 saves for the shutout Wednesday and the Winterhawks stopped a furious series comeback from the Blazers with a 2-0 victory in Game 7 of their Western Hockey League Western Conference semifinal Wednesday. Portland led the series three games to none and had a 4-0 lead in the first period of Game 4, but found themselves facing a winner-take-all situation when the Blazers stormed back from behind to win the next three games. Part of the problem for Portland was Carruth, who allowed 13 goals over the two previous games. "I hadnt played well for the last few games and this was a good response," Carruth said. "It brings some confidence back into the team. My teammates really helped me out tonight and let me see the puck." The Blazers chase for history came up just short, as Marcel Noebels and Brendan Leipsic scored for the Winterhawks to propel them into the Western Conference final for the second consecutive season. The Blazers must now digest a bitter end to a season that saw them win their first playoff series since 1999, a four-game sweep of Victoria in the first round. In this series, Kamloops nearly became the first team since 1996 to rally from a 3-0 deficit and win a WHL post-season series. "If you wouldve told me after being down 4-0 in Game 4 that we wouldve been in this position against this team, I wouldve thought you were crazy," said Kamloops head coach Guy Charron. "Its a credit to our guys, who never stopped believing in themselves." And the Winterhawks never stopped believing in Carruth, who posted his third career post-season shutout. "It all starts with the goaltender," said Portland head coach Mike Johnston. "People have been on (Carruth) for the last couple of games, but he was solid and confident tonight." Kamloops goaltender Cam Lanigan was stellar as well, making 37 saves in defeat. Portland drew first blood just 1:01 into the game when Sven Bartschi found a wide-open Noebels in the slot in front of Lanigan. Noebels had time to measure a wrist shot, and beat Lanigan between the legs to make it 1-0. "That early lead in Game 7 is critical," Johnston said. "That gives your team momentum. Everybodys tired at this point, and its hard when you have to fight from behind." At that point, the game became an affair of missed opportunities, with both teams sliding pucks wide and failing to get good contact on numerous chances scoring chances from close ranger. When the teams did get off high quality shots, Carruth and Lanigan were each up to the task. Portland finally broke the tension with 10:11 left in the third period, when Leipsic cashed in Cam Reids centring pass on a 2-on-1 to give the Winterhaws a two-goal lead. The Blazers scrambled to try to get back into the game, but couldnt solve Carruth. Kamloops went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Portland finished 0-for-1. The Winterhawks will face the Tri-City Americans in the Western Conference final, which kicks off Friday in Kennewick, Wash. Kevin Faulk Jersey . His wife, Sandy, says "it will be an incredible experience" to celebrate his legacy by having the family throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Andre Tippett Jersey . The moment Jones said hell savour in retirement came after a dramatic homer that can help his chances of one more post-season. Jones hit a three-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon with two outs in the ninth inning, capping a five-run rally that sent the Atlanta Braves over the Philadelphia Phillies 8-7 on Sunday. Stevan Ridley Limited Jersey .A. Happ makes his starting debut for the Toronto Blue Jays tonight when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays in an all-important AL East showdown. Kyle Arrington Jersey . The two teams will also be aiming to build off extremely important wins in their last outing when they take the field at Charlottes Bank of America Stadium for a Thursday night showdown that will launch the Week 3 schedule of this 2012 NFL season. Carolina earned its long-awaited return to notoriety thanks largely to the talents and charisma of Newton, the leagues reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year who established a new season standard for first-year quarterbacks by amassing 4,051 passing yards and accounting for 35 touchdowns (21 passing, 14 rushing) during a dynamic debut for the top overall selection of the 2011 draft.TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Amari Cooper caught two touchdown passes from AJ McCarron and Christion Jones returned a kickoff 99 yards for another score, leading No. 1 Alabama to a 33-14 victory over Mississippi Saturday night. The Crimson Tide (5-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) trailed briefly, 7-6, for the first time in regulation since last years Tennessee game, a span of about 10 games. The Rebels (3-2, 0-1) put up a fight against a team that had been walloping opponents by nearly 37 points on average, but still lost their ninth straight SEC opener. "It was a hard-fought win for us," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "I think people probably dont give Ole Miss enough credit. They played hard. They were physical. Their offence is difficult to defend." Saban had tried to keep his players focused by broadcasting Tim Tebows memorable speech after the Rebels upset Florida four years ago in the weight room and meeting rooms. Alabama goes into its open week without needing such a podium prompter. McCarron completed 22 of 30 passes for 180 yards and Eddie Lacy gained much of his 82 yards in the fourth quarter when Alabama put it away with Jeremy Shelleys third and fourth field goals of the game. The Tides defence bailed out an offence that sputtered at times with three interceptions. Alabama totalled 305 yards against a defence that gave up 66 points and 676 yards to Texas two weeks ago. The Rebels gained 218 yards in a game that was largely controlled by the defences after days when SEC teams like Texas A&M and Georgia rolled up 50-plus points. Lacy had 12 carries for 43 yards through three quarters. Cooper collected eight catches for 84 yards. McCarron broke Brodie Croyles school mark of 190 consecutive passes without an interception. He finished the game with 206 in a row. Bo Wallace was 15-of-26 passing for 123 yards for Ole Miss and was intercepted twice. Jeff Scott was limited to 49 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown. Wes Welker Elite Jersey. Ole Miss did something no other team had done in about 10 games: Got a lead on Alabama in regulation. It lasted only as long as it took Jones to run back the ensuing kick. Scott cut inside for a 1-yard touchdown early in the second quarter for a 7-6 lead. That ended the Tides streak at 603 minutes, 46 seconds dating back to a 3-0 first quarter deficit against the Volunteers last season. It was fleeting. Jones raced untouched for a touchdown after grabbing the ball on a high bounce at the goal line and Alabama scored two more TDs before halftime to surge to a 27-7 lead. It was Alabamas first kick return for a TD since Trent Richardson did it against Duke on Sept. 18, 2010. Then, Dee Milliner intercepted a pass that Wallace threw right to him. Three plays later, McCarron hit the playmaking freshman Cooper for a 16-yard touchdown. It was ruled incomplete, but a review overturned the call after replays showed he had possession with a foot in bounds and the ball stretched just across the goal line. Cooper reached over Frank Crawford in the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown. Both his scores were on third-down plays. The Tide defence picked off passes on consecutive on consecutive drives after Ole Miss scored its first touchdown. "That was the turning point in the game," Saban said. "We really only put one true drive together. Those turnovers were really the difference in the game." Ole Miss didnt score again until Randall Mackeys 12-yard touchdown run with 6:35 left in the third quarter trimmed the deficit to 27-14. The Rebels converted two fourth-down plays on the drive, on a Jeff Scott run and catch. The Rebels had one final chance to stay in the game. They inched across midfield midway through the fourth but had to punt and Alabama ran most of the clock down with a ground game mostly held in check before getting another field goal. ' ' '
