The AVCHD(*.MTS) format has recently become a very popular format for sharing movies because it works well with retaining the quality of high definition movies. MTS file can be directly playable on VLC media player for Mac or Mplayer OSX, for either of them natively accept MTS file. When comes to iMovie or Quicktime, it isn't compatible with the high-definition MPEG Transport Stream video format.
