For me there is a serious flaw with the wholesale golf clubs – they have been designed with a high flight “drop and stop” performance in mind – just as your review indicates. A few years ago you would have been hard pressed to find any lower handicapper or pro playing something other than a Titleist 910 D2 Driver but the woeful performance of the 910 D3 Driver and increasingly impressive offerings from the likes of TaylorMade and Callaway saw them slip from the pinnacle of driver manufacturers. It’s fairly apparent that the larger D2 has more forgiveness and is easier to hit straight and with a higher natural ballflight. The Titleist 910 D3 Driver is more workable but still very forgiving with a mid-high trajectory.
Good ball strikers are sure to gravitate towards the new Titleist CB 712 iron. The CB irons are a forged blade with a satin finish. They feature a progressive offset with a shallow cavity behind the club face. In addition, they have a thin top line and a round profile that make the Titleist CB irons one of the sharpest irons available. These beautiful blades, are full-on blades – beginner’s beware. I tested the Titleist 712 CB Irons in a Dynamic Gold S300 shaft. The irons perform great for a players iron. The Titleist CB’s are extremely workable yet still deliver a consistent ball flight for a repetitive swing. Distance is unremarkable, but as expected.
