MASH dvd box set really is amazing how much has been trimmed and cut out completely over the years to make room for more commercials. Now days they could just time compress it, but instead are still showing the chopped and spliced rerun versions. I would estimate in season one alone I saw about 70 minutes MORE than you would see watching season one on TV Land or Hallmark channel.
That's about an average of 3 minutes more per episode. These are not just longer versions of the same old scenes you know and love, but entirely new segments (since they were originally hacked out) that add much value and enjoyment to owning this set. I saw a scene with Frank Burns drunk out of his mind and singing that has not been shown on the chopped versions for probably more than 30 years. In fact, many of the newly restored scenes are HILARIOUS and like finding buried treasure!
The quality of walt disney dvd box video overall is very good. I have never seen MASH look this good from broadcast TV. One of the main features I love about this set is that you can choose to watch them with or without the laugh track on.
For me, the show is even better WITHOUT the laugh track. I don't need a laugh track to tell me when Pretty Little Liars Seasons 1-2 DVD release something is funny. I find myself laughing all the more without it. Plus you can really hear and notice the nuances of the performances to a level that the laugh track had previously obscured.
