As the beginner of Windows Movie Maker, you may come across various problems when using it, such as how to open .mswmm files, save Windows Movie Maker to WMV or how to import your source file into the Movie Maker, etc. In the article, I would like to show the detailed tips on using the Windows Movie Maker.
First comes to MSWMM files:
Some users may be confused about why the .mswmm can’t be uploaded upon YouTube. In fact, the .mswmm file is project file, rather than Windows Movie Maker video, but the project file. So before sending the video to YouTube, you should save the movie as .wmv or .avi video file type.
Part 1: How to open or import video to Movie Maker:
1.Run the Movie Maker program.
2.On the File menu, you can choose Import into Collections or Import Media Items. Make your selection and then click Import. Also you can directly add .mswmm project file into the software.
3.Drag the video to the storyboard at the bottom of the window.
Now, you can effortlessly edit your video in Movie Maker. When you finish the editing job, you can follow the Part 2 to save it.
Part 2: Save Movie Maker file or .mswmm file as .wmv or .avi
After do the above three steps, you can go on the following ones:
4.On the File menu, click Save Movie File in Windows XP. If you’re using Windows Vista, click Publish Movie.
5.Click My Computer, and then follow the steps in the Save Movie Wizard to save your file.
6. Name your movie and choose a place to save it.
Choose the other settings radio button and select "High Quality Video (small)" and click next.
7. Once it has finished processing there should be a .wmv file where you chose to save it previously.
Sometimes, you will find that some file can’t be imported into Movie Maker. In such a case, you should firstly check out whether your handy file types are listed as below:
Video file types:
.asf, .avi, .wmv, MPEG1, .mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .mp2, asf, .wm
Audio types:
.wav, .snd, .au, .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .mp3, wma
image:
.bmp, .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe, .jfif, .gif
If the file type isn’t in the list, you may need to convert video to WMV for Windows Movie Maker with the Windows Movie Maker Converter. It can easily convert MP4 to Windows Movie Maker , so does MKV, MOV, M2TS, etc.
