Canon XF100 is an old but still popular camcorder camcorder for us. It utilizes Canon's XF Codec – a file-based MPEG-2 compression with an MXF File Wrapper that ensures the widest compatibility with existing industry infrastructure, metadata and non-linear editing (NLE) systems; while, the Canon site lists various compatible editors for this camcorder, but does not list Vegas (it includes Final Cut, Avid etc). So, if you try to put the recorded files into Vegas for editing, you may meet the question "Is it possible to edit Canon XF100 .MFX files using Sony Vegas (Movie Studio HD Platinum 10)? Will the .MFX files first need to be converted to some other format? Any solution here?"
As we all know Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 can easily support to edit video including high-definition HDV and AVCHD, but does not support MXF. You can't successfully import the Canon XF100 MXF video to it, even using Pluigin. To edit the videos, you have to transcode MXF to a friendly format for copying to Movie Studio 10. MPEG-2 is the best edting ormat for Sony Vegas, here I will show this MXF to MPEG-2 Converter to help you do the conversion. Pls trust it. You will get the fast conversion speed and HD quality.
Step 1: Click the adding button to add your Canon XF100 MXF files to the best Canon MXF to Sony Vegas Movie Studio Converter.
Step 2: Click on the dropdown menu of “Format” and select Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas >> MPEG-2(*.mpg) for Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.
Step 3: Click “Settings” icon, when the “Profile Settings” window comes up, you can configure video and audio settings like resolution, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channels for editing Canon XF100 footages in Vegas Movie Studio smoothly.
Step 4: Hit “Convert” button to start to convert Canon XF100 MXF files to MPEG-2 for Movie Studio 10. When finished the conversion, you can click “Open” button to get the generated MPG files. Then, import or just drag and drop the converted MXF files to the timeline for easy editing.
Tips:
1. If you want to merge MXF clips, just need to check the “Merge into one” box.
2. You shouldn’t move the single MXF video out of the whole MXF whole structure folder, or the MXF video would be wrong such as without audio.
