For those who love customizing movies, editing movies is necessary. However, if you get a Sony Alpha NEX-6 camcorder and want to edit the AVCHD files on Mac with iMovie, you will meet the "incompatible format" errors. First, you need to know that AVCHD is not the friendly video format with Mac and iMovie, but the Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) with MOV format is. So in order to transfer 60p MTS/M2TS files from Sony NEX-6 to iMovie, I advice you to change AVCHD(MTS/M2TS) to AIC MOV for your Mac.

To get the best video and audio settings (to get the best quality as you need), you need to find one smart AVCHD transfer tool for your Mac computer. I am using Brorsoft AVCHD to MOV Converter, which is powerful enough to convert MTS lossless. Here, I take it as an example to help you how to trasncode your NEX-6 .mts/.m2ts files to a comaptible for editing in iMovie.

Guide: Best settings for the fast AVHD to iMovie conversion.

Step 1: Go to download and install the top. Run the program to import your Sony NEX-6 MTS/M2TS videos. If you wanna join some MTS files together, check off the “Merge into one” box.

Step 2: Click on Format -> iMovie and Final Cut Express --> Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) (*.mov) as output format.

Step 3: Click on Settings to adjust audio and video parameters including video size, video frame rate, bitrate, sample rate, audio channel. For 1080/60p recordings, 1920*1080 video size, 30fps video frame rate are the most suitable settings.

Step 4: Startconverting Sony NEX-6 60p AVCHD to AIC MOV for iMovie via clicking the Convert button.

When the conversion process shows in 100%, please go to the main interface and tap the Open button to get the resulted video. You can directly imported the exported video to iMovie for freely editing without quality loss.
