As we know, Apple's built-in Preview application is not only a PDF viewer like Adobe Reader, but also has some editing features in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
If you want to totally change the images and text on an existing pdf file you will need an application like Adobe Illustrator that can actually edit the content of pdf files, but if you only want to make small changes the built in preview app will do the job!
Open a PDF file in Preview, click "Tools" in the top menu, choose "Mark Up" then you can see "Highlight Text", "Underline Text" and "Strike Through Text" options. However, Preview is not powerful enough for you to edit the PDF text in Mac OS X, such as changing the content, deleting or adding new words, images or paragraphs.
Now we try to edit pdf text with Preview.
If you have a Mac Leopard, which allows users to add notes, highlight and strike through text, or use ovals and rectangles to call attention to specific sections of the page, you can easily edit PDF text on Mac with limited editing capabilities.
Annotate PDF: open PDF in Preview > click Tool and choose Annotate, then select to Add Oval, Add Rectangle, Add Note or Add Link
Add Oval and Add Rectangle do not allow you to add any text but provide a frame that you can use to remind yourself and others that the text or graphic inside the frame is important.
Add Note function is similar to a footnote in a book or paper. You place a speech bubble near the text you want to note and a note appears on the right hand side of the page where you can add text that you can refer to later.
You have two options to add a link: either point the link to a page within the current PDF document, or add the link point to a specific URL.
Actually, if you want to totally change the images and text on an existing pdf file you will need an application like Adobe Illustrator that can actually edit the content of pdf files.
