Canon to iMovie-How to import Canon C300 MXF files to iMovie

Summary: In this tutorial, you will learn the way importing/editing Canon C300 MXF files in iMovie smoothly by transcoding MXF to AIC mov on Mac OS X.

As a popular professional camcorder, Canon C300 is able to help us record vivid high-definition videos in MXF format. MXF files is widely used in Sony, Panasonic and canon high-end cameras and camcorders, it is a good format for recording videos, but MXF files are not easy to use beacuse many editing software can't handle MXF files flawlessly, such as Apple's iMovie, Final Cut Pro, etc.

If you have bought this camcorder for professional use and have recorded many MXF files, you may want to import C300 MXF files to iMovie for editing on Mac. However, iMovie doesn't import MXF videos directly. In order to edit C300 MXF files in iMovie flawlessly, you'll need to add an intermediate step. As far as I know, the best best method to solve these problems is to convert C300 MXF to Apple InterMediate Codec (AIC) which is a best editing codec for iMovie. You can follow the steps below to transcode C300 MXF to iMovie for editing. Along with some help from the 3rd-party software.

1. Settings- click to set video resolution(1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate(from 1Mbps to 20Mbps), frame rate (24p/30p)

2. Editor (next to "Add" icon)- click to set deinterlace, denoise, mute, volume up, trim, crop, etc.

So there you have it. Pretty simple. After the workflow, you can go to the output folder to find the converted video files. Now you are free to start importing/editing C300 MXF files in iMovie under Mac without problems.
