Panasonic camcorder is the most popular in the world, many people love to use it and me too. Recently I purchase the 12MP Lumix DMC-GF5 Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens Kit- Red from Panasonic, which is the fourth in Panasonic's range of small-bodied 'GF' Micro Four Thirds cameras, and sits below the G3 in the current lineup. The differences between the GF5 and its predecessor are relatively few, and we doubt they'll prove significant enough to tempt any GF3 users to upgrade. But they do combine to make the new camera a more attractive proposition to compact upgraders than the GF3.
Although the Lumix DMC-GF5 always outputs amazing image and video quality at high speed, the videos are recorded in the AVCHD .mts/.m2ts format is always the souce of the incompatibility problem for Final Cut Pro uers when they intend to transfer and edit Lumix GF5 AVCHD in FCP, including Final Cut Pro 6, 7 and FCP X (10.0.3). Then how to make Lumix GF5 1080i MTS footage editable in FCP? In this article, you will learn some something about it from the post.
In fact, the MOV video format with Apple ProRes 422 Codec is the best editable format for FCP. It means you need to transcode DMC-GF5 MTS to Apple ProRes for FCP firstly with a powerful AVHD Converter for Mac OS X. I used Brorsoft MTS to FCP Converter, which help me convert and deinterlace 1080i AVCHD for FCP at a fast speed with best video quality. Bellow is the steps about how to use it via Mac.
Step 1: Connect Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 to Mac. Luanch the MTS/M2TS to FCP Converter for Mac and click the Add button to import the 1080i AVCHD footages to it. If you have put your recordings to HDD, you can directly drag the .m2ts files to the M2TS to FCP Converter for Mac. After that, you should double click files to see whether they can be previewed normally.
Tip:
If you want to combines several AVCHD clips as one, please tick "Merge into one" box.
Step 2: Click on the "Format" and move you pointer to "Final Cut Pro" on the dropdown menu. Choose the Apple PreRes 422(HQ) format to keep the high video quality.
Notes:
1. If you want the files to be in smaller size and make sure that your FCP has updated to 7.0.3 version or above, you can follow Final Cut Pro>Apple ProRes 422(*mov) option.
2. If your files size is at SD levels, you are advised to choose Final Cut Pro>Apple ProRes 422(Proxy)(*mov), which is recommended for 480i/p and 576i/p shootings as well.
Step 3: Click the "Convert" button for starting the Lumix DMC-GF5 AVCHD to FCP conversion on Mac OS.
After the easy 3 stsps, you can import Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 AVCHD files to FCP for editing by clicking “Open” effortlessly.
