Have shot a plenty of clips with your HD camcorder like Sony HandyCam. However, the captured .mts files seems to be so tough to play back on your PC media player. Does it mean that your MTS or AVCHD files can't be watched on Windows OS? Of course, not. If you are running on Windows 7, you can try your luck for its native support AVCHD/MTS/M2TS videos. Also you can test whether your .mts can be playable on the latest version WMP. Alternatively, you can refer to VLC Media Player, which can accept AVCHD clips.
Anyway, to Windows OS owners, convert the original MTS to WMV is also a way out. For WMV is Windows-friendly file format. Look at the brief introduction to WMV:
WMV (Windows Media Video) is a video compression format developed by Microsoft. As a competitor to RealVideo, the WMV is originally used for Internet streaming application. As it is a friendly file format, for it can well playable on Windows Media Player, so do mobile media devices like PSP, BlackBerry, iRiver, etc.
Note: What's MTS file format:
MTS file format, also called AVCHD, is used for high definition video file, which is commonly associated with camcorders from Sony, Panasonic and others. While MTS files can be viewed in few media players, they can't be played in desktop applications pre-stalled in Windows Vista, Windows XP, and even can't be customized in video editing programs.
Step by step on how to convert MTS to WMV:
Step 0: Free download the MTS to WMV Converter on your Windows OS (Windows 7 included)
Step 1: Click button "Add File" to add the MTS video files you want to convert.
Step 2: Specify the output format as WMV under the menu of "Profile", and set the output destination folder.
Tip: More optional settings allows you to do the editing job. For example: you can go to "Clip" to trim a certain time-length segment, cut out the black edges by "Crop" Windows.
Step 3: Hit "START" button to do the conversion from MTS to WMV.
In the pop-up window, there are two options provided for your preference: "Shut down computer when conversion completed" or "Open output folder when conversion completed" there.
