'Boardwalk Empire' wisely doesn't try to tell the entire story
Nucky Thompson (boardwalk empire dvd) has an unimpressive job title -- he's the treasurer of Atlantic City -- but everyone in town knows he's the Boss. The subtle Buscemi is a joy to watch in the role: He's believable as a former street scrapper turned well-dressed political fixer with a pragmatically brutal side. Yet Nucky has an air of melancholy about him, as if living like a king in the Ritz Hotel can't fill a hole in his soul. He's up to his elbows in dealmaking among bootleggers, gangsters and movers and shakers, but he sometimes gives off the air of a man whose mind is elsewhere (perhaps on the memory of his dead wife).boardwalk empire season 2 dvd
