SWF is a file format for multimedia, vector graphics and ActionScript in the Adobe Flash environment. Currently, SWF functions as the dominant format for displaying "animated" vector graphics on the Web. It may also be used for programs, commonly browser games, using ActionScript.
FLV is the filename extension of Flash Video, which is a container file format used to deliver video over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player versions 6-10. Flash Video may also be embedded within SWF files. The audio and video data within FLV files are encoded in the same way as they are within SWF files. Flash Video has been accepted as the default online video format by many sites, such as YouTube, Hulu, Yahoo! Video, etc.
