Stream/Transfer TiVo TV shows to Transformer Prime for playing
By any means, Asus Transformer Prime TF201 is a great portable video player. The tablet is super that you can play 720P, 1080P HD/FULL HD videos on it without worrying about the battery, because it can last 12 hours and 18 hours with dock playing 720P videos. So why not transfer your TiVo recordings to the Android Tablet Eee Pad Transformer Prime? No matter where you are, whenever it is, just take out the Asus Tablet and enjoy your favorite TV programs or football matches freely! Nice idea, isn't it? In the following guide I would like to share with you how to get your TiVo recordings ready for the Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich Tablet. In order to enjoy TiVo recordings on Asus Transformer Prime, you got to transfer TiVo to your PC and then convert the TiVo files to Asus Transformer Prime compatible formats.
Simple Guide - transfer recorded TV shows (*.tivo) from your TiVo box so as to backup and play the TiVo recordings on the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. Below is the two parts:
Part One: Transfer TV recordings from TiVo box to your PC
Part Two: Convert TiVo TV shows to Asus Transformer Prime supported video format
Part One: Transfer TV recordings (TiVo, TiVo HD, TS TiVo shows) from TiVo box to your PC.
Make sure you have installed TiVo Desktop Software on your computer, and your TiVo box is connected to your home network. It is so easy to transfer recorded TV shows from your TiVo box to your PC or Mac. For details, you can access the instructions on how to transfer TiVo file to PC from their website.
Part Two: Convert TiVo TV shows to Asus Transformer Prime TF201 supported video format
As you see, the Asus TF201 supports a wide range of formats: H.264, MPEG-4, H.263, mp4, MKV etc. And you can see TiVo is not there. In order to play tivo on the Asus Transformer Prime, we have to convert TiVo videos to H.264 MP4 which is compatible with the Android Tablet. Here I use the Video Converter app from Pavtube Studio.
To be honest, I use Pavtube for coverting TiVo videos for my Asus Eee Pad Transformer. It works very well and I haven’t really had any problems. Conversion speed seems fine and the videos look good on the Asus Transformer Prime Tablet. I saw Pavtube mentioned in the TiVo forums as a good way to convert for the Asus Transformer Prime so I decided to try it. It's much better than TiVo's converter. TiVo’s converters for mobile devices are terrible and have many problems.
Below is a workflow you can take as reference:
1. Install and run the comprehensive TiVo to Asus Transformer Prime Converter on your PC, and then add your transferred TV shows into the program.
(Notice: Enter the Media Access Key of your TiVo recordings into the “Open > TiVo” of the program to quickly import your TiVo recordings.)
2. Choose best video format for Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. You can select "H.264 Video (*.mp4)" from "Common Video" category.
Tips: Click Settings button to set the Size (pix) to 1280*800 (for full screen playback on Asus Transformer Prime), video Bitrate to 1500, Framerate to 25 to 30. For 1080P playback on Asus Transformer Prime, you can set Size (pix) to 1920*1080, video Bitrate to 2000 to 4000, Framerate to 25 to 30.
3. After everything is done, you can convert TiVo to H.264 MP4 for Asus Transformer Prime by clicking "Convert" button.
Once getting the converted TiVo files from the default output folder, you can quickly copy them on your Asus Transformer Prime by using a USB cable. After that, you can enjoy and play recorded TV shows (*.tivo) Asus Transformer Prime with HD quality anytime and everywhere as you wish.
