Boardwalk Empire Recap: I’m Confessin’
Nothing too difficult to tease out about this particular episode’s thematic concern:boardwalk empire dvd The Highly Effective Confessional Habits of the Guilt-Ridden. We open with Agent Van Alden reading his holy book while Pregnant Lucy is moaning for lemons off-camera.
This has been a long time coming, and it finally manages to make Van Alden’s storyline interesting in the second season. After being a driving force early on, recently he’s just been tending to Lucy and wrestling with his personal demons. The question of what’s next for him now that the baby is finally here leads to opening up his role in the show and making it larger.

Not that the Lucy and Van Alden scenes were useless, by any means. This week, Lucy finally gave birth, alone in her apartment, with no help from Van Alden, who was otherwise occupied at the hospital with the mortally wounded Agent Clarkson. This is huge for Boardwalk Empire’s overall story, because among other things, Van Alden’s wife Rose learned about Lucy and the baby this week, which is bound to have repercussions (beyond the bite marks Rose leaves on her husband’s arm when he tries to restrain her).
Van Alden panics and calls his wife, telling her he’s not fit for her or for his badge or for the illegitimate son he’s about to have (boardwalk empire box set), but just as he’s about to come clean and confess his corruption to his supervisor, he sees Agent Clarkson deliriously say “I know what you didddd…” to his nurse. Van Alden’s like, “You mean your nurse has been pocketing seized liquor money and using it to pay off her baby mama too? ERRR UMMM I MEAANNNNN bye!” and he leaves, exhaling.
