The show’s pilot focused on Steve Buscemi’s character, Nucky Thompson.boardwalk empire dvd Thompson is Atlantic City’s undisputed leader who lives a double life acting as a high standing city politician while also playing a high role in the mobster scene controlling the Atlantic City casinos. At the Atlantic City boardwalk where the most popular recreational activities include alcohol consumption, gambling, and prostitution, the law of prohibition backfires and only opening bigger doors for illegal activity. The shows pilot takes place the night before prohibition is enforced and Nucky Thompson and the other big time mobsters have already started organizing their underground bootlegging business.
Terence Winter, producer of The Sopranos, adapted the screen play and collaborated with the show’s pilot director and executive producer, Martin Scorsese, to develop the shows look and production. Scorsese will continue creative involvement with the show after and is rumored to be directing more episodes after the pilot.
