Tokyo's InterBee show was the launch of Panasonic's first native 1080p camcorder with 10-bit processing and AVC Intra on-board -Panasonic AJ HPX300 P2 Camcorder. The HD Camcorder shoots recordings in MXF file format.
As Panasonic MXF Plugin does not work for iMovie 8, I have to look for the workaround for editing Panasonic MXF files on Mac OS X Lion. I find Pavtube HD MXF Video Converter for Mac OS X Lion as a professional tool to make the videos compatible to iMovie 8. It would Convert Panasonic AJ-HPX 300 P2 .mxf files to AIC mov, so that I can import MXF to iMovie, export AIC at the same settings as the original and play it with QuickTime.
Importing Panasonic AJ-HPX 300 P2 MXF file to iMovie and edit mxf video with iMovie is not as diffcult as you think. Yes, many of iMovie fans knows that they can't import p2 mxf files into iMovie directly by theirselves. If you import mxf files to iMovie, the mxf fils will be grey. Don't worry, just read and follow my step by step tutorials, you will get how to import MXF files to iMovie on Mac OS X Lion by yourself.
1. Download, install and run Pavtube MXF Converter for Mac OS X Lion, connect Panasonic AJ HPX300 P2 camcorder to Mac with Panasonic P2 MXF Utility. You will get the folder with files like .CIF, .THM, .MXF and .SIF.
2. Load Panasonic AJ HPX300 P2 MXF files to the program.
Click "Add" button, import MXF files to Pavtube MXF Video Converter for Mac or drag and drop the files to the application UI.
3. Set Apple InterMediate Codec(AIC) (*.MOV) as output video format.
Click "Format > iMovie and Final Cut Express > Apple InterMediate(AIC) (*.MOV)" as output video format. Click the "Settings" button to choose 1920×1080 as video size,and choose 50 or 60 as frame rate according to your camera mode.
4. Convert Panasonic AJ HPX300 P2 MXF to AIC MOV for Editing in iMovie or iMovie 8.
Click the "Convert" button under the preview window, start converting Panasonic AJ HPX300 P2 MXF files to AIC Codec for iMovie.
After the conversion is done, you can import/edit AIC files in iMovie flawlessly Mac OS X Lion.
Tips:
1. If you are using Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Pro X, just choose "Format > Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422(*.mov) "as output format for HD video editing.
2. Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac also support convert Panasonic AJ HPX300 P2 MXF to AIC MOV or ProRes 422 on Mac OS X Lion.
