I like easy editing with iMovie for family movies like interesting events, cats, building a snowman. My Sony TG1 with 4GB memory stick produces AVCHD movies in full HD, and it is very small and nice looking. Some people indicate that iMovie supports loading AVCHD video from HDR-TG1, but I still could not get through it. I find Aundoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac as the best Sony TG1 to iMovie converter to transcode MTS videos to iMovie supported AVI.
If you have the same problem about editing AVCHD in iMovie, you may find the following step-by-step guide useful to edit MTS/M2TS videos on Mac OS X. I take my Sony Hanycam HDR-TG1 camcorder and iMovie on Snow Leopard as an example.
Step 1. Load Sony HDR-TG1 AVCHD videos to Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac.
Just connect HDR-TG1 to iMac with USB cable, and copy the files to hard drive. Run Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac as the Sony HDR-TG1 to iMovie converter, and click the "Add" button to load 1920x1080 .mts videos.
Step 2. Choose AVI output format.
As the videos are recording in full HD 1920x1080 and I would like to get 1920x1080 video resolution for output video, I just click the "Format" option, and choose HD Video > AVI HD Video(*.avi) for converting MTS to AVI in HD.
Step 3. Convert Sony MTS to AVI for iMovie.
Click the convert button under the preview window, the Mac Sony MTS converter starts converting MTS to AVI for Mac OS X editing software iMovie.
When the conversion is finished, the output video and audio is syncing perfectly. It is easy to import HD AVI videos with the recorded content to iMovie.
Tips:
1. The output files also works for Non-linear editing software on MacBook Pro or iMac like Final Cut Pro (FCP), Final Cut Express (FCE), Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer (MC), and Kdenlive.
2. The Mac MTS to AVI converter also works with the AVCHD videos from camcorders like Sony HDR-XR520V, HDR-CX110, Cyber-shot DSC-TX7, Canon HF S21, HF200, Panasonic HDC-TM300.
