'Prohibition' and 'Boardwalk Empire'
"Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits," is the sly Twain quote from "Pudd'nhead Wilson" that opens PBS' "boardwalk empire dvd," which begins at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, on WVIZ Channel 25 and WEAO Channel 49. Burns and Novick then follow this up with another line by Twain: "Fanatics will never learn that, though it be written in letters of gold across the sky. It is the prohibition that makes anything precious."
Boardwalk Empire and Nucky Thompson Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), as the treasurer of Atlantic City, New Jersey, runs the city. As a politician, Nucky depends on votes to keep his power and is a master glad-hander, adept at telling people what they want to hear in order to keep their support.
