Have some WMA songs and want to import the WMA files to iTunes (iTunes 11) so that you can sync the songs to your iPod, iPhone or iPad? Check the free ways here.

As we know, the Apple iOS based portable devices like iPhone, iPod, iPad etc. do not support WMA audio files playback. What if you have some WMA songs and want to play them on your iPod/iPhone/iPad? In this article, you will learn how to import WMV to iTunes (iTunes 11) so that you can sync the songs to your iDevice.

For WMA songs, there are two types: unprotected WMA and DRM protected WMA songs from Napster, Rhapsody, Nokia, Zune, etc. This article is divided into two parts to illustrate the different ways to transfer unprotected WMA and protected WMA to iTunes. Both of the ways are free of charge, below is how.

Part 1: Add unprotected WMA to iTunes with iTunes itself

Launch iTunes, and click File > Add File to Library to load the WMA files to iTunes Converter. Then the below window will pop up:

Just hit the Convert button to continue. iTunes will convert the WMA to iTunes supported AAC and add them to iTunes library automatically. If you want iTunes to convert the WMA to other audio formats like MP3, you can do it by changing the Import Setting as following (Launch iTunes and select Edit > Preference. Under the General tab, select Import Settings):

Note: iTunes Mac version cannot convert and import WMA files itself. If you want to add WMA audio files to iTunes on Mac, you need a Mac Audio converter which can help you convert WMA to iTunes MP3, AAC, WAV, etc.

2. Convert protected WMA to iTunes

iTunes itsellf cant encode DRM protected WMA audio files. To get the work done, a third-party software (which can help you remove WMA DRM and convert DRM WMA to iTunes supported audio formats like MP3, AAC, WAV, etc.) is needed. Here the popular DRM Remover entitled ChewTune is highly recommended to you. Its completely free for handling DRM protected .wma, .m4a, .mp3, .m4r, .flac, etc audio files.

The process is straightforward. After downloading, install the software and then run it. The main interface is as below. As you can see, you can finish converting wma music to iTunes in three simple clicks. Just click Add Video icon to import wma audio files, choose out format like AAC, M4A, MP3 from Common Audio, then press the Convert button, very easy to use! ChewTune supports batch conversion so you can convert several audio and video files in one go.
