I am a special effects man, I have been engaged 5 years on movie editing. Last week I got some videos from Canon 5D Mark III, and I like enjoy the H.264 files very much. But I met some troubles with the HD recordings. I could't import H.264 MOV files into my Avid MC 5.0.3. I think its a driver issue, but I couldn't find any drivers on the Canon or Avid websites that applied to MC5. Some colleagues told me that my Avid MC needs to be upgraded. I'm not quite ready to upgrade to MC6 yet, which i'm guessing will solve the issue. Is anyone else meeting the similar problems with the new 5D Mark iii files in MC 5.0.3?
I found the problem in a forum from Googling. In fact, I have met the same trouble. Luckily, I have solved it with an easy method. In the post, my main goal is to share the best way, converting H.264 MOV to DNxHD, with all Canon 5D Mark users. From searching, I found although Avid MC could surpport almost video formats, it had to use a AMA Plugin to import file to Avid MC. We can't make the AMA Plugin always work well with Avid MC, like the 5.0.3 version. In fact, Avid MC surpports the native format DNxHD 36 without any plugin, if we change from Canon 5D Mark H.264 MOV to DNxHD editing format, we won't meet any trouble without any plugin no matter what system the Windows or Mac computer runs.
Then how to transcode H.264 MOV to DNxHD? Firstly you need to insatll a professional Video Converter. You can go to Google and download the best one. Here I advice you to use Brorsoft Video to DNxHD Converter. I have been using it for a long time. It lets me enjoy the surper fast H.264 MOV to DNxHD conversion speed adopted CUDA/AMD technoligies. It also can keep the origibal video qaulity after converting, even 1080p HD Video. Besides, it has the Avid MC built-in profile, I can freely set the video and audio settings as I like. In a word, I haven't meet any trouble with my Avid MC 5.0.3 since I got it. Why not have a try with it?

[b]PS:
Click “Settings” and set video resolution(1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate(from 1Mbps to 20Mbps), frame rate (24p/30p) freely. You’d better set the “Profile Settings” as the below picture, which can keep the best video quality for copying to Media. For example, if your origial file is 1080p, you'd better set the video size as 1920*1080 and frame rate as 30p to keep the best video quality.
