"I have just bought a new Canon camcorder. I can download the photos but I am unable to import videos from the camcord to iMovie for some easy edting, they are greyed out when I go to open them. These videos are all of .MTS format. Someone just told me recently that the new version of Imovie excepts mts files. However it would appear I think that I do have the new version and it does not accept mts files by my Imovie 11. Is there any software which I can import mts to imovie? "
MTS is a kind of AVCHD format with the file extension of .mts which is mainly recorded by some digital camcorders like Sony, Canon, Panasonic etc. These file format can’t be compatible with many applications like iMoive, FCP, if you need to import .MTS to iMovie, you need to convert MTS to iMovie MOV, MPEG-4, DV format. That means you have to convert them to iMovie own format using Apple's Intermediate Codec, which takes up more space.
Click the "Add Video" button to load the MTS video files from your camcorder to the Mac MTS Converter. You can import several MTS files simultaneously
Step 2. Select MOV as output format
Choose the source file and click the "Profile" drop-down list. Then you can choose the mov format.
Step 3. Edit the video effect (Optional)
This software also possesses some basic video editing features. With it, you can trim video length, crop video frame, and adjust video brightness/saturation/contrast, and so on.
Step 4. Convert MTS to iMOvie for Edting
After all these settings, you can click the "Convert" button to convert MTS files to MOV for iMovie editing.
