"Is there a way to stream HD MKV files with AllShare to the Samsung Galaxy Tab? I've got a lot of them but I can't play them. Any other file is doing just fine." Have you ever asked the same question? Actually, according to some user's feedback, Galaxy Tab is unable to play .mkv media files via ALLShare.
A quick test streaming from a desktop PC to the Tab reveals that it can play:
.avi = plays ok
.wmv = plays ok
.mp4 = plays ok
.mkv = Unsupported file format
.mpg = Unsupported file format (amazingly)
.m2ts = Unsupported file format
MKV is just a container format which can contain various codecs, only a small subset of which (e.g. H.264, Xvid) the Samsung Galaxy Tab can play.
