If you want to play MKV files on Mac with Quciktime, there is a problem that you can't import MKV to Quicktime for playing because Quicktime doesn't support MKV well.
The MKV (Matroska Multimedia Container) format is similar to .AVI and .MOV, just as a file container, that supports several types of video compression and video codec, and the most common use of .MKV files are used to store HD video files.
After converting MKV to Quicktime MOV, importing MKV to Quicktime on Mac is not a problem any more. You can enjoy converted MKV videos with Quicktime on Mac.
