Blu-ray audio solution for wdtv
I had been researching and jumping on forums for a best way playing DTS/DTS-HD/DTS-MA audio with WD TV Live, because all the movies (HD MKV files) that I have that have DTS audio simply doesn't play the audio. It just sounds like a constant humming. Only DTS STEREO plays. I thought the WDTV Live was supposed to decode DTS and send it out stereo via optical port, but I tried with lots of files but all with the same result.
I was suggested to convert DTS into AC3 5.1 for better sound effects- in fact my AVR doesn’t support DTS 5.1. It works, and my receiver delivers 5.1 audio. Only one thing, it takes hours to convert a movie. Soon I learned a faster way- convert the movie from DVD/Blu-ray again with a new tool Pavtube ByteCopy. It has 2 features over the other tool I used, these are convert DTS/DTS-HD/DTS-MA to AC3, and keep original video. As it doesn’t transcode video stream, the conversion time is greatly reduced. Now it takes me 10 to 15 mins to convert a DVD to MKV with AC3 5.1 and 1 hour+ Blu-ray to MKV with AC3 5.1.
