How to get Windows Media Center play MKV movie ripped from Blu-ray Disc?- For Windows 7 OS
You don’t have to install a universal codec for enjoying lossless MKV backup from Blu-ray Disc, as it’s very easy to get your Windows 7 Media Center play MKV videos. Just install a powerful MKV codec pack that enable Windows Media Center play MKV format, say Shark007 codecs. Follow the passages below to play MKV copy of Blu-ray movie in Windows Media Center.
MKV playback solution for Windows 7 Media Center
1.Download required MKV codec packs:
There are two essential codec packs for playing MKV with Windows Media Center, and you need to install both of them. Download the codecs from below links.
1) Windows 7 codecs by Shark007
2) x64 Components addonby Shark007
According to Shark007, the codec packs work with both 32bit and 64bit Windows 7 media center, we tested with a 64bit Windows 7 HTPC and it did an excellent job in playing MKV.
2. Basic setup for MKV playback.
Install the two MKV codec packs to your Windows 7 PC, and do basic settings for MKV playback.
1) Windows 7 codecs settings
Run the Windows 7 codecs v2.7.9, and switch to MKV tab, then check the box of “Enable Linked files(Haali) and “Disable the DivX Media Foundation splitter”.
2) x64 Components addon settings
For a 32bit Windows 7 PC, simply run x64 Components addon v2.8.3, switch to MKV tab, and check the box of “Enable Linked files” and “Disable the DivX Media Foundation splitter” as it shows below.
For a 64bit Windows 7 PC, you need do a bit more settings. Fist check the two boxes as it shows above and then switch to “Config” tab and tick “set 64bit player”.
3. Play HD MKV files in Windows Media Player (64bit Windows 7 PC).
The high-definition MKV file we use for test is a LOSSLESS BACKUP of commercial Blu-ray Disc Toy Story 3(created by Pavtube ByteCopy). And here’s file information for your reference:

When playing MKV with WMC you can make: play, stop, fast forward/backward, switch between subtitles and audio tracks, and skip to any specific chapter.
How to switch between subtitles and audio language in Windows 7:
Find a small icon of Shark007 at the right of taskbar on your desktop, and right click to set subtitles and audio language. To turn off subtitles, just select “No subtitles” from the shortcut list.
