How to play m2ts on VLC smoothly with best quality?
I captured videos with Cannon HD camcorder and want to play them on computer. However, VLC does not play them smoothly. I noticed that some posts about this issue, even though VLC is said to play videos in AVCHD format (MTS, M2TS). I searched and get the following conclusion.
1. Make sure your computer is not too old.
The quality monitor will more or less influence the visual image. However, I do not think it matters a lot as long as the computer is not older than 3 or 4 years. The CPU processor and video card shall handle the video.
2. Codec?
VLC media player promotes not having to download additional codecs, and I do not think it shall be an issue to M2TS files.
The real thing we shall pay attention to is the program version. Keeping update to the latest version will help us solve any potential problems. And for the latest version of VLC, I solve my problem with the following steps:
Step 1. Go to the preferences settings window of VLC.
Run VLC media player and choose Tools > Preferences, and we can change settings for the player.
Step 2. Change the loop filter for H.264.
From the preferences window, choose Input & Codecs, find Skip the loop filter for H.264 decoding, and choose BiDir from the drop-down list.
M2TS file can be recorded via several compressions like MPEG-2, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, and the option for H.264 shall work for m2ts files with H.264. Choosing BiDir instead of All is to make sure that the video quality is not degraded.
