in Akron Cell phones allowed golf tournament at Bridgestone
Here are the rules:
Over the years, you haven’t seen too many cell phones at Firestone Country Club during the PGA Tour’s annual stop in Akron. The ones that were
being used by fans during the Bridgestone Cell Phone Batteries Invitational were not allowed
there and had been snuck in.
This year, the PGA Tour changed its rules and allowed phones at tournaments.
• All phones must be turned to silent mode while at the course.
• If you need to talk your phone, you cell phone stylus must use one of the
designated areas at the course.
• For texting and data usage, move away from the play of the tournament – basically, don’t be a distraction to the players.
• Cell phones may not be used to take pictures or record video during tournament play.
"It's such an integral part of society these days,” said PGA Tour’s Chris Reimer. “People can't unplug from work for an entire day and come out
to the golf course."
The biggest issue for the PGA cell phone screen protectors Tour is policing the new
initiative.
"I think it's a great idea especially during the day,” said Chris Kichurchak. “You have business people that you want to be able to bring the
revenues in as well so allowing them to crystal cell phone covers be able to conduct
business in some capacity on the course is a great idea."
"If you're doing work, you want to get away and have the smartphone capabilities to read emails and text and respond," said Matt Matheney.
Two fans on the course during Wednesday’s practice round echoed that sentiment.
