"I'm distributing marketing materials, and also have digital products. But I don't want other people changing my content. And I know Adobe pdf password, but how to use this pdf password to protect the pdf files, also maybe disable the printing feature? And if someone who don't know the password could unlock password protected pdf?
Also there are somebody asked how to remove pdf password on mac in my blog, all above questions maybe very simple for long-time pdf users. But it will be difficult for the beginners. The next I will talk about how to set pdf password to protect pdf documents with password, and how to remove pdf security.
How to password protect PDF documents or files?
1. Open the PDF file in Acrobat
2. Select File > Document Security from the menu
3. Got to the "Security Options" drop-down and select "Acrobat Standard Security"
4. Find the box labeled "Password required to open document" and place a check mark against it.
5. Edit or type the password
6. You can also add a password requirement for changing permissions or password. To add a required password, check the box against "required password to change permissions or password" and enter the password. However note that this password must be different from the one that you entered for securing or password protecting the PDF file.
7. If you want your PDF document to be password accessible to users with previous versions of Acrobat Reader (versions earlier than 5.0), do not change the 40-bit encryption setting. However if your users or audience will be using version 5 or later versions of the Reader (or the full Acrobat program) then you may use 128-bit encryption.
How to suppress printing or copying text from a PDF document?
You can suppress printing the PDF document or changing the document. You can even suppress content copying, image extraction, and adding or changing comments on it. Check the boxes next to the appropriate options that you want to apply. Then, click OK. At last, you will then be required to confirm the password. You must re-type them correctly for the changes to be accepted.
Note: The standard security provided by PDF consists of two different methods and two different passwords.
1. User Password – Also known as open password, because we would be asked to input password when clicking to open them. Somebody who wants to open it must with the right pdf password.
2. Owner Password – We can read the contents of owner password protected PDF files, but could not copy or print it. Click "Document"-"Security"-"Show Security Properties" to check out the Document Restrictions Summary.
